Mark Lui

Mark Lui is a renowned composer and producer of pop music and is now based in Hong Kong.

Biography

Mark Lui studied Civil Engineering at Imperial College London in England where he met Hong Kong actress and singer Karen Mok.

Lui has worked with a massive range of pop singers in Hong Kong, including Leon Lai, Jacky Cheung, Andy Lau, Miriam Yeung, Leo Ku, Gigi Leung, Kelly Chen, and teen idols Alex Fong and idol group Cookies, to name a handful.

Although he has built a reputation as one of the best Cantopop composers and producers in Hong Kong, critics claim that his works focus on karaoke-style pop songs only, and what's more, many of his works are actually 'copied' from various sources of foreign songs. Mark Lui admits the similarities are due to the fact that he always gets inspiration from the latest foreign songs, but always denies he actually plagiarized them. Nevertheless, there were many famous incidents that his works were found nearly identical to foreign songs in terms of composition and music arrangement.

For example, in 1997, the intro arrangement of his work for Leon Lai, "100 possibilities", was found to be the same as Nanase Aikawa's single "yumemiru shoujo ja ireranai". In 1999, Shiina Ringo released a hit single "Gibusu" which is characterised by a very strange guitar effect. Mark produced a song for Kelly Chen which had exactly the same melody soon after.

In 2006, he produced Justin Lo's second album ''No Protection''. The album, including the cover design, were found similar to The Black Eyed Peas's latest albums, ''Elephunk'' and ''''.

Apart from music producer, Lui is also a singer and actor. He has formed a short-lived band "Dry" with Stephen Fung. He acted in films such as "Rave Fever ", "求戀期" and "戇星先生".

Mandy Chiang

Mandy Nga-man Chiang is a Hong Kong singer signed to the Emperor Entertainment Group, Music Icon Rocords. Her music career first began in 2002 when she partnered up with Yumiko Cheng and Maggie Lau to form the female group: 3T. The female group published one album and separated shortly after. Then, in 2005, Mandy's music career began again when she was asked to be a duet couple with Don Li. Together, they have released three albums. In January 2007, Chiang announced that she and will continue their music careers as solo artists. Her debut solo album has been released on April 24th, 2007 titled: Other Half. The concert concept is to express how Hocc herself walked through these 10 years in her music career and how she gained so much love and support in this period of time, gradually forming their own united group as expressed in the song "''''" . The concert was well organized to express this idea, including all the colored parts in her rundown, which marks the different steps in her music career); the stage design, which starts off as a tiny stage far from the audience, gradually expanding towards all directions and reaching every corner.

As usual, Hocc collaborated with her band, Green Mountain Orchestra and a few members from People Mountain People Sea , for this series of concerts.

Joleuhn Yauhleih

Joleuhn Yauhleih is a series of successful concerts around the world, including multiple shows in Hong Kong and Las Vegas in 2003 and 2004 by Cantopop stars Alan Tam and Hacken Lee.

The concerts were named "Neighbors" which is a play of words with a well known Chinese four-character idiom 左鄰右里 using homonyms 麟 and 李 in the artists' names. The concert became known for the "happy culture" which it inspired, especially welcomed in a period of economic downturn and an air of pessimism in Hong Kong society as a whole.

Hong Kong Performing Artistes Guild

Hong Kong Performing Artistes Guild or HKPAG is the main labour association of Hong Kong artistes, canto-pop singers and stage performers. It is a member of the International Society for the Performing Arts. It was founded by a group of leading Hong Kong performers including Jackie Chan, Anita Mui, Chow Yun-fat and Maggie Cheung.

The four major objectives of HKPAG include strengthening bonding and communication amongst fellow performing artistes, improving professional standards and qualities, promoting and protecting performing artists' rights and contributing to charity activities.

Forget Him

Forget Him is arguably the most widely known song ever produced. Written by Hong Kong media maverick James Wong, it was originally sung by Teresa Teng and was included in her first Cantonese album, "势不两立" .

Fifteen years later, the song was given a shocking makeover by Shirley Kwan, as part of her 1995 tribute album . This new Dream pop version was featured in Wong Kar-Wai's art house movie "" as the Jukebox song number "1818". As the title suggested, the hitman played by Leon Lai wanted his accomplice, Michelle Reis, to forget him.
